Prevent my Embossing Powder from Sticking to the Stamp

To prevent embossing powder from sticking to your stamp when heat embossing, try these techniques:

  1. Use an anti-static tool: Before stamping, run an anti-static tool or powder bag over your cardstock. This creates a thin layer that prevents stray powder from sticking where you don’t want it.
  2. Let the ink dry slightly: After stamping with VersaMark or embossing ink, wait a few seconds before applying the powder. This allows the ink to become slightly tacky rather than wet.
  3. Clean your stamps thoroughly: Ensure your stamps are clean and free from any residual ink or powder before use. Use a stamp cleaner or mild soap and water.
  4. Use a light touch: When stamping, apply gentle, even pressure. Too much pressure can cause excess ink to squeeze out, leading to powder sticking where it shouldn’t.
  5. Tap off excess powder: After applying the embossing powder, tap off the excess onto a piece of scrap paper. You can then funnel this back into your powder container.
  6. Use a small, dry paintbrush: Gently brush away any stray powder before heating with a small, dry paintbrush or a static-free cloth.
  7. Heat from underneath: Start heating your embossing powder from underneath the paper. This helps the powder start melting from the bottom up, reducing the chance of it sticking to unintended areas.
  8. Store stamps properly: Keep your stamps clean and store them properly to prevent dust or debris from accumulating on their surface.

By following these tips, you should be able to achieve cleaner, more precise embossing results with less powder sticking to your stamps.
